"In light, there is a darkness and in the darkness, a light. It is the way of us all. Be a prisoner of neither Bendu nor Ashla. Strive to live in balance."
Ir'brak Master, Altayn, founding member of the Ir'brak Ordua.
Originally, there were two tribes who lived within the lands of Zabrak. Two vastly different groups who attached themselves to different culture, traditions, and even language. These two tribes were against each other in every move, with the first (the Cathari) being men of piousness and devotion, direct opposites to the second (the Sistanir) who were men of hedonism and non-belief. While the Cathari and the Sistanir fought each other, a small group of men and women watched over them from their Temples, judging, learning, understanding. The people in the Temples were known as the Ir'brak, a religious group of hermits whose connection with the lower tribes was an occasional food trade. However, these hermits were more than just crazy old priests, they were the Ir'brak, warrior-monks; and these warrior-monks had enough with the squabbling of the masses.
While the two tribes had many warriors, the Ir'brak had the Zaldun. Men and women who had devoted themselves to the study of the blade, warriors of great mettle, warriors who would ensure stability in the region. The Ir'brak Zaldun quickly conquered the Cathari, then the Sistanir, they were no match for the organised Order. The Ir'brak quickly established themselves not as rulers over the tribes, but custodians, people who would watch over them to ensure that they would not fall back to their old ways. For the Ir'brak saw a delicate balance of what they called "the Manaan", an unifying energy field that connected everything in the world, thus being inside every human on Earth. They saw the Cathari as being in too much support of Ashla, light, and they saw the Sistanir as being in too much support of Bendu, darkness. Because the two tribes affiliated themselves with either side and not balance, the Ir'brak had to step in to ensure that they would not destabilise the already unstable balance.
The Ir'brak Ordua does not place themselves too heavily into tribal organisation, however, they do place Zaldun in every court, longhouse, war-hall, any area that spoke politics. The Zaldun had to ensure that the tribes would not fall back to their ways without Ir'brak influence. The Ir'brak themselves were organised by the Ir'brak High Council. The High Council is a group of twelve wise and powerful Ir'brak Masters who were elected to guide the Order as well as to serve as an advisory body for the tribes. The Council was made up of five lifetime members, four long-term members, and three limited-term members. The Council was established as meeting of several trusted Ir'brak Masters, the idea being to set up to create a loose hierarchy in the Ir'brak Order and as such a Council that could deliberate on issues that would eventually come up.
Now, Zabrak sits as a nation united by a thread, the Cathari and the Sistanir constantly pushing against each other only to be held back by the Zaldun, but for how long can that peace last? How long can the Ir'brak sit by as the balance tips from dark to light? How long can they let the feuding tribes fight among themselves before they decide to enforce their ideals once more?
