The Sin'Aikas
Post Body

The Turfe had done well for the merchant families, as he followed their desires and maintained the relationship between the royal court and the influential merchant families. However, while the Turfet kept it's land safe and its coffers full, it struggled to strengthen itself as an institution as most of the expansion in Ban'so'garekan influence was both mercantile and colonial which was controlled and benefited the merchants more. As the merchant families needed the assistance of the Turfet's resources and strength more and more to enforce and maintain their position overseas, the relationship strengthen and also formalized more and more. However, the merchant families were able to continually strengthen their own position until by the time of the war with the Canaanites, and the subsequent absorbing of the riches the Canaanites had reaped for centuries, they were nigh untouchable.

The most powerful of the merchant families used the success and their sheer wealth to draft a basic system to officially formalize the relationship between the administration of the Turfet and the influential merchant families. Gone were the days of the Turfe being able to decide things on a whim and the merchant families would follow suite like in the days of Asethon. The merchant families simply asked the Turfe and Turfea to agree, and the two royals might as well have been chained. They would agree to the system, and this is where the famous Sin'Aikas would originate.

The Sin'Aikas was the large council of the most prominent 8 merchant families, equaling 64 members in total. Each family would send an equal amount of 8 per family, and they would deliberate about Turfet policy and recommend decisions on both internal and external affairs. They would still only submit recommendations, and had no binding power, but unofficially the Turfe and Turfea required the agreement of at least a plurality of the Sin'Aikas or they would risk alienating the most powerful people in the Turfet. The Sin'Aikas would also serve as the center where the powerful and rich would not only mingle but use as a way to solve disputes amongst themselves. The prestige of having your family sit on the Sin'Aikas was incredible, and the merchant families would jostle constantly for the honor of officially being a part of it. The families who held that honor were always considered the most powerful and influential, and held significant power over Bagaroki society.

The Sin'Aikasi, or members of the Sin'Aikas, would come to pull the economic strings of the Mediterranean as they had but now with the backing of the Turfet. The destinies of the age-old bloodline of Asethon and the ever-changing but powerful merchant families were now even more tangled together. These two founders of Bagaroki society would come to cooperate and clash as they both tried to fashion it in their own identity.
