The darkness of night came through the whole village. It was filled with the calls of insects and animals, which created a great chorus of sounds. The simple dwellings of the people may have kept them protected from the rain, but they did little to reduce the heat and humidity of a summer night. Fires popped and smoldered throughout the encampment, many attended only by those fast asleep. Only one had a gathering of people, sat in rapt attention. One man, the shaman, wove a great tale as the fire danced. For a moment, they forgot their hard lives. They forgot the toil of the fields and imagined a world beyond.
Little did they know that this story was the beginning of their own.
