The exodus to the mountains provided the Urapi with new challenges. Whereas previously a large majority of the population had been involved in agriculture, much of the new land at their disposal was not viable for this enterprise. Though most simply adopted the pastoral life of their Tevali cousins and raised goats or stuck to the valleys viable for traditional agriculture, others stubbornly sought to expand the reach of plough and seed. These efforts yielded terraced farming and irrigation canals.

The new pastoral lifestyle left dursarri with a relative absence of things to press their dursa in, as less pottery and mudbrick was available. Noticing that certain ochres and dyes could be readily applied to the surface of objects they actively sought out these substances and thus developed ink, which they began to apply to rocks and trees in the absence of homes and pots. Over time these became a fundamental mark of political expression in Urapi territory, with citizens actively requesting certain seals within their grazing lands as a mark of their affiliation and protection of a given dursarr, and dursarr making many marks on the borders of territory that they considered under their jurisdiction.

Dursarri began to arm their dursarrem with epsilon axes, of particular value when ambushing foes from uphill, as was often the case in raids into Orissioz.

In the absence of other material wealth to display their power, dursarri also began to embellish their dursa, gilding them or embedding gems into haft or head. [Sceptres] Meanwhile their dursarrem and other loyal followers began to tattoo the seals of their dursa upon their skin voluntarily, typically on the back of their hands, a conscious reversal of the involuntary branding being imposed upon Orissian slaves which marked their commitment to liberating Urapivarta and Varavarta.

With the holy sites of Varavarta becoming increasingly unavailable to the Urapi, many sought to fulfil certain theological obligations through alternative means. They thus took the ziggurat design present throughout much of Varavarta and began to construct their own at holy sites new and old, creating raised platforms upon which to better entreat with the vaunted khans.
