| Alphabet | Academic | The people of Vuazrayava had long used symbols to represent everything, from the food they ate, to the places they lived, to the work they did, to the gods they worshipped. But as the population grew, and more succinct clarity was needed for the proper functioning of Ghibalb, a new system was needed. Enter Suzub the Wise. A brilliant administrator under the reign of ɲetl Samium, Suzub believed that the clearest and most efficient way to convey words was not, in fact, through images and symbols, but through fragments of words, or zepishtapada. This system was made up of 26 different fragments (a b ƃ d e f g h ɧ i k l m ɲ o p q r s t ţ u ɥ v y z) meant to convey the basic sounds present throughout the Uktapada language. At first, this was useful for the labeling of buildings and property to better designate purpose and ownership, but soon would evolve to be something much more important... |
| Colored Flames | Cultural | Fire held an important place in Vuazrayavan culture. Everything in the world is made of two different but equally important parts - the mortal fiber and immortal essence. To this end, while anything exists in the mortal realm, it is forcing its immortal essence counterpart to remain in the mortal realm with it. This is why statues and paintings of the gods don't exist in Vuazrayavan culture - to create such things traps part of the Gods' holy essence in the mortal realm, and therefore is only done briefly when making special prayers and sacrifices. To return this captured essence, the image must be burned, sending the essence back into the stars. In a similar fashion, after death, bodies are burned to free the immortal essence and have it join the Gods among the stars, while the remaining mortal ash is collected, stored in an engraved pot, and brought to the great catacombs of Ghibalb. In recent years, such ceremonies and religious services of burning have needed more pizzazz to truly honor the Gods and offer them a better service, so after a lot of trial and error a few basic formulas were created that could be added to a burning fire to cause the flames to burn at a specific color. Some rocks can be powdered and mixed with oils to burn red, orange, blue, and silver. These made for brilliant shows, and would become a staple at major religious ceremonies. |
| Stone Walls | Architectural | The land of Vuazrayava is truly a gift from the gods to our people, and to build upon and improve that land is to honor that gift. The city of Ghibalb is a shining example of this veneration, but it could be so much more. To that end, the city government has long played host to the best engineering minds of Takriazrea and paid handsomely for any innovations that they could bring forward. Over time, this has built into a collection of tools, techniques, and specializations that form the foundations of masonry and stoneworking. Most recently, this group has turned its attention to the problem of defense - as Ghibalb continues to grow and serve as a home for more and more citizens of Vuazrayava, so do the rewards for any who wished to plunder the gem of Takriazrea. So a structure was designed to keep those who would mean the city harm at bay - a foundation of massive stone walls, strong enough to withstand the fiercest of warriors. From the top of these walls, our men could fire arrows down upon the attackers, and our soldiers can lay waste to any who would storm the narrow entranceways to the city. |
| Roads | Administrative | Since the earliest of the Pilots, travel and transportation has been at the center of Vuazrayavi governance and culture. In order to stay connected and informed, pilots would be tasked with verbally running messages between settlements, or between a settlement and Ghibalb. In recent years, their prowess as navigators and warriors has seen them protecting caravans, delivering messages, and commanding bands of soldiers, but as the volume of this work has increased and Ghibalb has transformed into a regional hub, it has become clear that a more permanent transportation network will be needed. To this end, the Ghibalb Core of Engineers have designed a network of permanent roads, paved with stone, to make it easier than ever to connect Gibalb with the rest of the world. Traders, messengers, and ordinary people moving throughout the region can now travel more safely and without fear of becoming lost, and at the center of this network is the shining gem of Takriazrea. |
