I (31F) am in an age gap relationship with my girlfriend (41F). We just started seeing each other about 2 months now, but I am already falling in love with her. I have dated someone 5 years older than me and 7 years older then me, but this is my first 10 year agr. I met her mom for the first time yesterday at a farmer's market, and her mom pulled my girlfriend aside and her first comment was "She's so young!" (I look younger than 31 I've been told). This made me feel bad because I don't anyone to judge her for dating me. I don't want anyone to think I'm not serious about her. I'd love for her to be my forever girlfriend/partner (fingers crossed).
How do you deal with comments like this? How do you deal with the stares?
I find this can be extremely common in wlw relationships. 10 yrs and especially with your ages should not be such a big deal but sometimes ppl will judge especially if you look younger. I've experienced this too from others. With my long distance poly partner (I'm 33 and she is 55) we have gotten mother and daughter quite a few times but she likes to stir the pot to the bystanders who say that and will kiss me and say would a mom do that to her daughter. I've also found from some family members even if they say they are ok with our sexuality they will use some other reason to mask or disguise some of their issues with dating a woman. My mom has done that before as back when I used to date men too and I had an age gap there was no problems and when I dated my ex gf who was 7 years older my mom said wouldn't u be happier with someone your own age.
