Post Body

I (23F) have been with my boyfriend (40M) for almost 4 years. We’ve lived together for 2 years, are very compatible in many ways, share many of the same values, interests, etc.

We have a pretty special bond and great relationship.

My family doesn’t love him. They like him, but the age gap really gets to them - they don’t like that he is 40 and worry about me. They also worry because he doesn’t have an incredibly successful career or make a large amount of money. He changed careers 2 years ago and basically started over in another industry and currently makes about $60k/year. He has also moved from job to job a few times in the last couple of years during this transition.

I’m already quite successful at a young age and make $75k/year at my full-time job that I love. It really doesn’t bother me much that he makes less / is less “successful”. He is a hard worker and is figuring it out. But I know it bothers my family, as they don’t want me ever having to take care of anyone, particularly someone who is so much older than I am.

It’s difficult to shake their judgements and concerns. Thoughts?
