Can someone explain the meaning behind “Daddy/Mommy issues” When it comes to dating?

We all hear the comment “She/He has daddy/mommy issues” when it comes to agr. So are they saying that are looking for a father/mother figure they can have sex with?
I used to just accept as people jumping to conclusions or just being petty, but thinking about it more, I can’t imagine anyone with actual “daddy issues” would look for a relationship to fill that void AND find that person sexually attractive.
Am I missing something?
