r/YahooQR, the new stain on the French-speaking subreddit community
Post Body

Hi all, I'm Herbert_Leonard, you might remember me from a post here about FranceLibre, a sub that has since been banned by the admins, goes to show that denouncing that kind of subreddits works.

So, today we're talking about r/YahooQR (that would be Yahoo Q&A in English), a sub that has been created in April, following the announcement that the original website would close in May, provoking an exodus that ended up partially on reddit.

So what is the population of YahooQR like? Well, I'd say mainly boomers, very reactionnary, antivax, quite racist, and unbridled in their hate as we'll see when discussing the moderation policy. Some users on this sub try to fight back though so not everybody is guilty here.

Let's dive into it with some examples:

"Oh boy, I commented on this twitter thread saying «Merkel should bring more n*gro migrants» and I got banned"
"Why does Netflix spread LGBT propaganda in all of its movies and series ?"
"To fight back against global overcrowding, are you on the vaccination team or the LGBT-promotion team ?"
"Isn't the link between immigration and crime widely accepted by the general population ?"
(About the subs' flairs)"Isn't it a bit hypocritical to have created a «Religion and Republic» flair rather than «Islam out!»"

It's also funny to see that some old accounts that were roaming r/francelibre have seen an opportunity in mingling with this sub, like here where the question is "Why does Japan know (sic) antisemitism while being a country without jews" and one of our most famous FranceLibre escapee answers that it must be because "they informed themselves about past and present (sic) History", very clever samsng, thank you.

Now onto a personnal experience of mine where this comment made me angry, the user says here that "it would be good idea to kill [a far-left political leader]". This is a clear-cut call to murder which is very much illegal in France and against which I sent a modmail.
One of the mods reaction was this one which translation you can find hereunder:

STOP!

I know as well as you do that the left has a twisted ideology, in which there must be a God state that they want to control so that they themselves can become stars. Politicians exploit this belief, but they have never made them rich. They prefer to blame other people for the failure of their promises.

This is of course very violent. Even when they have eliminated all political opposition, on simple denunciation, sometimes they end up killing each other between fellow fighters.

But then, you also have young people who don't know how to take this kind of step back... And they still fall for it!

All this to say that your calls to violence against leftists have been reported. I've deleted some stuff, and I'll delete some more. It's for the good of the community, that it remains an open space for everyone. For the diversity of debate, it's important. And Reddit doesn't allow you to scare others away!

You'll see me answer this comment, saying that this is a weird kind of moderation policy to just leave calls to murder and apologising to the perpretrator for asking him to stop, ensuring everybody that he's not a leftist. I ended up permabanned, then reinstated after another discussion some days later.
BTW, I recently used the opportunity to post the navyseal copypasta at another user on this sub and got moderated for being agressive. Go figure.

That's all for me, I'll let you dive into it if you feel so inclined. I recommend Deepl for translating, it's way superior to Google Translation. Cheers
