I'm restickying as a reminder

Firstly, this is being posted as an intent to start a discussion. We encourage a (civil) discussion of these matters, and hope that this is not misconstrued as an ultimatum or decree or whatnot.

Lately we have noticed a lot of shitposting, on both sides of the aisle, and as such will be updating our sidebar rules to more accurately reflect the expectations and MO of this sub. To start, we want to underline that this sub is, and always has been, dedicated to mocking and refuting bigotry on reddit. We don’t expect every post or comment to encompass both mocking and refuting, but a number of people seem to gravitate to this sub with the intent of only mocking. This, not surprisingly, leads to an awfully high amount of inane slap fights, where frankly, both the bigots and those mocking the bigots are behaving poorly. It is quite frustrating to see someone ridiculing absolutely deplorable outlooks using nearly indistinguishable language and behavior, and we do not enjoy having to moderate our viewer base.

So, to be clear, we expect better from you all than what we see and post about, and we will enforce that. The name of the game ultimately is to draw attention to the absurd and false statements made by the bigots of reddit, so that ideally the admins will take notice and remove these subs. However, since we all know that it is unlikely that the admins will root out and remove all forms of bigotry from reddit, the least we can aim for is providing an easy platform for underlining just how absurd and false these statements are, hopefully to undermine their credibility and ultimately, their desire to keep spreading their bigotry. Remember full well that reddit is a public forum and other people may read what is posted, and imagine that each time a bigot comes into this sub to spout their gibberish, that you’ve been presented the opportunity to convince someone who may be on the fence that that bigot is wrong about everything. Don’t squander that opportunity by insulting the bigots parentage or using the same four letter vocabulary they muster. While we don’t require the academic or comment rigor of /r/badscience or /r/badhistory, we would prefer our subscribers aspired to such standards. And remember, we take reddits ToS extremely seriously here - if you are doxxing or threatening anyone in this sub, you will be banned.

Additionally, we have seen a number of personal agendas or vendettas being handled via posts here, or by brigading from your own other various circles on reddit. Know that we do not approve of this behavior, as we consider it quite hypocritical given that we frequently point out bigoted subs doing the same. Remember - this is not intended as a safe space, and when and if bigots decide to come in here and be mocked and refuted, that is a good thing. We are not /r/CrackerTown, and do not hold that that is an effective means of dealing with bigotry on reddit.

tl;dr: don't act the same as the people we mock and refute.
