Eadhelm had some months since receiving news of his father's death. Organizing affairs, preparing his things. He had lived in Winterfell since he was a boy of seven, and the thought of returning to the place of his birth felt strange. He had known it would be an inevitability. That his father's health would not last forever, that his place, as the Gods had seen fit and destiny with it, to place him, was in Castle Hornwood.
And with that known, reconciled as best as it could be, Eadhelm Hornwood began to write.
To Lord Cregan Stark, Lord of Winterfell, and Warden of the North, to Whom I Owe My Life,
I ask humbly that I be relieved of my position as Master-At-Arms for Winterfell. My debt to you, as it stands, would likely never be repaid wholly in my lifetime. However, in light of the news of my father's passing, and with time given since for my considerations and organization of myself and my things, that I should set out with my sister and nephew to my home so that I may assume, wholly, my duties as Lord of the Hornwood and servant, forever, to your authority.
Righteous in Fury,
Eadhelm Hornwood, Lord of the Hornwood
The letter flies to Lord Stark's camp at Flint's Finger.
