Lord Wyman Merryweather had been riding for some time when he reached Darkdell, but luckily it had been an easy ride along the rose road to Highgarden, then up along the coastal road until he reached the seat of House Vyrwel. Even though Lord Humfrey knew he was coming, he was still nervous. He didn't expect Gwyn to refuse his offer of marriage, but the fact that it was going to be a surprise for her meant that nothing was certain.
He dismounted when he reached the gates of Darkdell, and called out to the guards at the gate, "Tell Lord Vyrwel that Lord Wyman Merryweather is here to see him, he should be expecting me."
