Gaven had been watching over the yard when Maester Olyvar brought him the roll of parchment. He almost hadn't looked up at the wrinkled old man's words, instead watching down below as Roger practiced with Ryon and a few of the household knights. The eldest of his younger brothers had inherited their father's talent in single combat, that much was clear.

"My Lord," the voice came again, nasal and almost whiny. Gaven would have found it grating had he not grown up around the man.

"Yes, Maester, the letter. Who is it from."

"From Parchments, my Lord."

Gaven had snatched the letter from his wrinkled hand quicker than a hawk on a field mouse. He read it over quickly, glancing out at the yard to Roger before making for his solar to draft a response, not so much as a 'thank you' to his Maester.

Lady Penrose,

It is a pleasure to hear from you again, my Lady. My children are well, Helaena is growing faster than I can keep track of, and the boys are eager as always for adventure. I pray you and yours are likewise doing well. As to your inquiry, my brother Roger Selmy is of equal age to your niece, and has also asked me recently about marriage prospects. I would be quite happy to join you at Parchments, and to introduce the two of them.

Gaven Selmy, Lord of Harvest Hall
