Does a program exist that enhances the quality of an image by enlarging it and then dividing its original pixels into smaller ones and using an algorithm to fill in the spaces? Just an idea I had.

I hope my title makes sense. If a program followed this process, you’d be able to zoom into an image indefinitely (similar to a vector) and the program could just keep enlarging and dividing the pixels apart? Right?
