No this was not just a simple case of road rage. The road rage is just what the shooter used to justify his murder out of hate. There's two things I am hoping Afghans living in the U.S. or other areas outside of Afghanistan learn from this incident:
The first thing is never move to the Midwest and South, or any areas that are predominately known to have a strong history of racism, prejudice, and xenophobia. People that live in these places are dreaming of the day they get to have their confrontation with someone that has a different race, religion, and culture than them. Don't give it to them. However, Sometimes these confrontations are unavoidable. Which brings me to my second point. Afghans need to buy and practice getting good at using a gun. I can't tell you how many times other Afghans have brushed me off when I tell them to strap up. A lot of Afghans in Western countries tend to avoid guns because they think America is safer than Afghanistan and guns remind them of the war back home. The problem with that mentality is that violent confrontations like this one are going to keep happening. If you want yourself or your family to be a victim of something like this then stay unarmed. If not, encourage everyone around you to stop sitting on their asses and drinking chai and instead go to the gun store and shooting range.
Also don't think you are exempt if you are not Muslim. The fact that some people are willing to easily kill Muslims and these same people assume you are Muslim just because of how you look or talk means that your life is also at risk of being lost by some incident like this.
