PSA/request - require state for location
Post Body

Iā€™ve seen a healthy fraction of posts which list their location as ā€œeast coastā€ or ā€œwest coastā€ or similarly very broad geographies. This covers thousands of miles of territory even if youā€™re only considering the United States. This can apply to other parts of the world/nation too, depending on the size of the geography described.

Iā€™d like to assert this level of filtering is nearly useless for the purposes of this subreddit. If weā€™re here to meet face to face that means weā€™re looking for connections in the same city/town or neighboring counties/states 99% of the time. If youā€™re a jet setter, great for you but unfortunately accommodating the 1% is hurting the rest of us.

I understand the perceived risk to opsec and the nervousness that people new to the lifestyle have. Iā€™ve been there myself. However, I also know thereā€™s no benefit to anonymity to list ā€œeast coastā€ vs New York. Millions of people live in each state and no one posts enough information to be narrowed down and identified. Weā€™re not here to narrow things down by time zone just to talk (see r/OnlineAffairs). Weā€™re here to touch each other and feel what weā€™ve been missing in our lives face to face. Youā€™re either ready to do that and put some skin in the game or you arenā€™t and best suited to reply to posts.

I propose posts without a minimum level of geographic specificity should be banned from the subreddit. Greater levels of specificity are, of course, welcome.

Iā€™m open to arguments as to why this shouldnā€™t be the case in the comments.
