Iāve seen a healthy fraction of posts which list their location as āeast coastā or āwest coastā or similarly very broad geographies. This covers thousands of miles of territory even if youāre only considering the United States. This can apply to other parts of the world/nation too, depending on the size of the geography described.
Iād like to assert this level of filtering is nearly useless for the purposes of this subreddit. If weāre here to meet face to face that means weāre looking for connections in the same city/town or neighboring counties/states 99% of the time. If youāre a jet setter, great for you but unfortunately accommodating the 1% is hurting the rest of us.
I understand the perceived risk to opsec and the nervousness that people new to the lifestyle have. Iāve been there myself. However, I also know thereās no benefit to anonymity to list āeast coastā vs New York. Millions of people live in each state and no one posts enough information to be narrowed down and identified. Weāre not here to narrow things down by time zone just to talk (see r/OnlineAffairs). Weāre here to touch each other and feel what weāve been missing in our lives face to face. Youāre either ready to do that and put some skin in the game or you arenāt and best suited to reply to posts.
I propose posts without a minimum level of geographic specificity should be banned from the subreddit. Greater levels of specificity are, of course, welcome.
Iām open to arguments as to why this shouldnāt be the case in the comments.
