I know you're out there... you've had a lifelong existential battle between being weird and being normal. You've got a regular job, a husband and a kid or 2 but you know the pleasure of cheap beer in a dive bar, hanging out with friends in Vans and a band t shirt you might have bought 30 years ago.
You eschew the dumb shit sitting at the center of American culture. You can't name a single Housewife except that one who's like, really famous. And those 2 who had an affair. Yeah, you know...those 2. Comfort tv to you is British Baking or maybe Bargain Block. Anything involving Republicans merits at best rubbing your temples and muttering "why?" and at worst white hot anger and hellfire spewing from your mouth.
Your husband... him I don't have a good line on. Maybe he's gotten lame as he's aged... like his weird/ normal balance has gone too far toward corporate suckup. Maybe he's trying too hard to keep up on craft beer trends or has a sudden interest in something like cars or vintage toys that leaves you cold. In any case, you aren't connected like you once were. Hence your poking around in joints like this one.
Depending on your skill set you probably work as a librarian or a graphic designer. Maybe a school psychologist or a lawyer who tries to help people. Something where things aren't so frenetic you can't occasionally look at reddit or text friends while on the job.
You love your kids and you're accepting the generational differences. She's pretty cool but would it kill her to occasionally mix in some Liz Phair or Sleater Kinney or the Breeders alongside Boygenius, Taylor Swift and Momma? You admit, not even begrudgingly, that Taylor is pretty punk rock for a billionaire.
Most of the other moms are kind of scared of you. First, even though you are a total sweetheart of a person, because you are an honest to goodness badass. As opposed to the #badass they aspire to be. Second, because you exude self confidence with glasses, streaks of gray and little makeup. Third, because they know that you will be running the show if the Momageddon ever takes place.
As for me.... I'm a lot like you. Bored, neglected, needing a little more. Craving connection and understanding. Self aware enough to know there must be others out there like me looking for inspiration and looking to inspire. Oh, and I'm tall and only have a beard when I don't shave due to my WFH job.
If you're out there, say hi. We have much to talk about. Tell me the last concert you went to. And also convince me to finally listen to Fugazi.
