After my last aerial silks class (beginner) about a month ago I developed pain in the last joint of my middle finger when I bend it. I decided to rest my fingers and work on overall strengthening and flexibility at the gym in the meantime, as I definitely need to improve both.
My finger continued to hurt every time I bent it and didn’t improve so I decided to tape it with some coban (didn’t have athletic tape) to prevent full flexion/support the joint in flexion. This finally gave me relief. I wore the wrap for a few days and then the pain was pretty much gone except very mild in passive hyperflexion of the joint.
Last night in a gym class we did several things in a hands and knees stance as well as used hand weights and this flared things up for me again. I’m back to wrapping my finger. Has anyone experienced something similar? Are there any resources you can recommend? Even a specific style of joint taping would be helpful as my searches didn’t turn up much. Grasping the silks takes a lot of grip strength so I want this to heal before I can go back, otherwise I will reinjure it. I really enjoy silks though and want to get back ASAP.
