Is it necessary to have health insurance?
Post Body

I’m a 29 year old male, single, very healthy and active, living in California. I make too much money to qualify for free Medicare and not enough money to have unnecessary expenses. I’ve not been seriously sick or injured in over a decade and have been to the doctors one time in that span to get a physical… to me, paying $3000 a year for insurance is such a waste of money.

I would however like to get a physical and some blood work done at some point this year. Mostly as a precautionary type thing. Maybe get my T levels checked as well. Aside from that I really don’t foresee needing insurance for any reason. Will a doctor see me and do those things without insurance? Will the cost out weigh a year of having insurance? Is it illegal to not have insurance?

Also one last thing, before anyone says “what if you get injured or you never know what could happen”… that’s just not how I view life. I’m okay taking the risk tbh it’s not a concern for me. When I have kids and a wife in my mid to late 30s maybe that changes. I leave my front door of my apartment unlocked, I leave the keys in my ignition, I never pay the parking meter etc… just not someone who worried about things like that
