I'm getting a puppy this weekend, and I want to name her the name that my friend has known she wanted to name her child (boy or girl) basically her whole life.
The name is Rowan. Besides being a really pretty name, it means "little red one" in Irish, and the puppy is a golden retriever/Irish setter.
This friend and I only see each other a few times a year, though we still consider each other close friends. We usually see each other while camping (our friend group is huge on camping), and everyone brings their dogs, so it's not like she'd never meet this dog. She's getting married next year and we're all in our early 30s, so I would assume she would have kids soon after that-- IF she's having them (she's not sold on the idea).
So. Can I steal it? ...Borrow it? Ask her? I'd be happy to switch to a nickname for the dog while we're around that family. And if I can't, anyone have any suggestions??
Edit: My kids ended up falling head over heels for their last boy puppy! All for naught. I think his name will be Rory (means, red king, in Irish) or Flynn (means, of the red-haired, in Irish).
