I've had many different jobs and I've had many sets of coworkers, but at the one I work at now (bakery/coffee department for a grocery store) I've become pretty close with my co-workers. Moreso to the point where two of them took me out for my birthday, I feel very comfortable telling jokes and I actually meet some outside of work, and I have a healthy curiousity about their lives and personal endeavors.
We picked out secret Santas a while ago and when I went to the mall to look for gifts, I found myself pretty dissatisfied with what was there. I took a detour to a local bookshop and found something I thought my secret Santa might like a lot (she is a pretty cynical person and I got her The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce, a very funny little dictionary if anyone is interested in it). However, in the process of browsing, I impulse bought something for almost everyone in my department and now I'm wondering if it's going to look bad if I show up to work with gifts for everyone when it clearly wasn't necessary, and whether people will think I'm trying to be superior or wondering how much I spent (which was honestly not much).
Now I'm conflicted with myself, wondering if I should keep the books I got for myself (which does make me feel a little weird) but also refusing to accept the fact that people can spend 30 plus hours a week working with someone and really "not know" what their co-workers might like.
Idk. What do you guys think of it?
Edit: a good chunk of the books I got are comics or picture books cause I know not many people read. Not sure if that helps to know.
