Well, introductions first. I'm Sarah, I'm 16 and female.
My issue is, I'm hung up on a recent death that's hit me like a ton of bricks. It's not just any normal death though, the thing is, it's a video game character(I know I'm gonna get trolls being mean but onwards I push). I recently played and beat Danganronpa V1: Trigger Happy Harmony and the first death of the game really has taken an immense toll on me(I'm on the verge of tears as I write this).
The thing is, all of the characters just felt so real to me. This is the one instance of a game managing to blur my distinction between reality and fiction so much, and the first friend you make in the game is the person you spend quite a lot of time with in the prologue first chapter, and you really get to know her well. She basicaly becomes a best friend, verging on love interest, until her death. Even with the cards laid out on the table rather early on(plus me knowing she would die at some point), her death just came so suddenly. You talk to her the night before and she's fine, and the next morning she's dead.
For some reason, which escapes me right now, I'm just inexplicably hung up on this death. I know she's a fictional character but she felt like so much more to me. She felt like a best friend, someone I'd known forever, who I could trust and confide in, someone who I could tell all of my secrets with no doubt that she'd keep them, and the sudden death has just jarred me so much. I've never been someone to be so afflicted by death, in game or otherwise, so having a death suddenly affect me so immediately and so intensely is a new experience, as is having it linger in my mind for so long.
So I come asking for advice: how do I respectfully get over someone's death while still honoring them and giving them the respect they deserve? Please give actual advice as well, don't just say stuff like "It's a game just get over it" because I've tried and it's not working.
