My friends want to bring drugs on a road trip, what should I do?
Post Body

So I’m 17, about to be 18 in May. My close friend group and I are planning a road trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota this summer, (assuming quarantine restrictions are lifted) it’s a two day trip there and we’re staying for 5 days. It’s all our senior year in high school and we want to do something special before we all go to college. It’ll be five of us in total.

Now, bit of backstory. In the past year, we’ve all kind of changed. I’ve always decided to stay away from alcohol and drugs. My older brother got depressed and almost suicidal partly from alcohol and drinking too much, also happened with another close friend. My close friend in this group would smoke so much weed that he relied on it for happiness and had a lot of mental issues from it. So I just tend to stay from this stuff. At least for now. Everyone else in this group drinks, smokes weed, does LSD, does weed wax, and vapes. I’m not a fan of it because every time we hang out now (other than Xbox and eating out) they usually get high or drunk. It’s just annoying sometimes. And I kinda miss just having fun sober with them.

While we were planning this trip, they brought up how they’ll bring drugs on the road trip. I’m personally not a fan of this. I tried talking to them but they basically all mocked me and refused to listen. I’m kinda a careful/plan everything out kind of guy. And it’s all of our senior years, so if they get caught its a chance it goes on our permanent record right before college. What if we get pulled over and they search the car? It’s a 15 hour drive we might accidentally speed or something. We’ll be staying in the Black Hills national park at a campsite. So smoking in general is illegal in national parks. They claim they will only do it at night. Whatever, fine. What if they’re too loud from being high out of their mind and the host kicks us out from figuring four people are doing LSD and weed wax in a public campground with families?

Now, to their credit they’re only bringing LSD and weed wax, both of which they claim are super easy to hide, and don’t create much fumes. Is this true? Still though, if there is a noise complaint and a state trooper or game warden comes to tell us, it won’t be hard for him to tell that there’s four kids high.

But, maybe I’m overreacting. Maybe I’m being too carful. I probably am. So I just need some advice. What should I do? Is the chance of them getting caught super low? Is this really not a big deal?
