I'm not entirely sure if this is the right subreddit for this post, but here goes anyway. I've recently joined a new company working as a driver. This company contracts work out from an even bigger company who owns contracts with my state department of medical assistance services. In my short time working with my company, I've come across multiple instances in which my direct employer's policies are at odds with the policies of it's contractor. One such example is allowing for stops where the customer gets out of the vehicle between the target pickup and dropoff locations rather than straight line trips between the two points. Another example is stopping at fast food drive thrus at customer request. These examples are only some of the policies of my boss which are directly against the policies stated by the bigger company which states that a driver is never to make stops for food or gas when customers are on the vehicle.
And so I'm in a quandary over what to do after speaking with my employer about these issues and having the employer continue to tell me to simply obey his/her word rather than the larger contractor. Refusing my boss likely gets me fired from a job that I really need, and yet obeying my boss has the potential to get me personally into severe legal trouble according to the larger contractor's policies and guidelines. I've not yet contacted the larger contractor about this issue, and have only directly confronted my boss as outlined above. What should I do?
