Hello redditors of /r/advice as most of you are probably aware of there is a heated conflict going on in the middle east at the moment. As with any complicated and deeply rooted political issue this has lead to many people having strong opinions on the subject. Here is my problem: I am a cultural Jew ( I don't believe in god but I am proud of my cultural heritage) and I have empathy and understanding for both sides of the debate. I like to read media from both view points to create my own opinion. In fact one of my favorite things about reddit is the interesting intellectual debate about important tissues that can occur in the comment section.Knowing what I have previously said I have recently run into a dilemma. On one hand I want to discuss the subject with other people so I can hear tier view points of view and I feel like it would be wrong of me to hid ein the shadows and not participate in the debate. Yet on the other hand when I make comments and posts using facts, or just saying my opinion, or when I see anyone else post anything that is mentions Israel, pro Israel,or is trying to include facts from both sides it gets down voted or and the user sometimes even gets harassed without them even acknowledging any facts/opinions from a non anti-Israel perspective. This has put a sense of dread and fear in me about my Jewish identity that has been mostly unfamiliar to me until recently.
So after that long winded back round info here is my main question: Should I give into my fear/anxiety/not wanting to lose karma unnecessarily and just not comment or post on the matter OR should I ignore the push back and continue voicing my opinion and trying to engage in a calm intellectual debate with others?
TL;DR: Should I shut up and stay out of tense debate/ Is voicing my opinion just a pointless action that will cost me Karma Or should I ignore the push back and continue engaging in debates and voicing my opinion on Reddit.
Thank you for your help/advice it means alot to me :)
