It's been 2 years. My Ma is 75 & has severe osteoporosis and is wheel chair bound and my old man is 90. I am not ashamed to be living with them, I don't take care of them financially but I always make or usually buy dinner (not fast food, diner old people food) Pops is starting to forget a lot of stuff and he can only drive during the day to the grocery store but since his accident 2 years ago I now basically drive him everywhere and my Ma to her appointments. I pay to get the driveway cleaned, I do the garden every spring/summer and maintain it. I pay for the yardwork though. I recently had to start bathing my Ma and I feel ashamed to say this but it's really uncomfortable for me. My dad is like 130 pounds so he can't do it. My Ma wouldn't feel comfortable with a stranger if I hired one, so I keep my mouth shut and do it. I told my childhood best friend about this today and he was like "She was cleaning your puke and wiping your ass, you can't return the favor for your ma? (Our families are similar his parents were born in Greece and my Parents born in Serbia) I just dont know anymore. My Sister is 45 has a family, doesn't help. (However she orders tons of non essential stuff for the house via amazon an has it shipped here, Febreeze, certain types of spray for me to clean the house, which I do every Friday, and it's top to bottom, every room, including kitchen oven, microwave etc.)
Has anyone had to take care of their parents on this level? I feel as if I am wasting my life, I left a 6 figure job to do this. I have no kids, never married, although I had a lot of girlfriends but I just never wanted to get married since I was a kid.
Is there a way I can approach this and be like I feel gross bathing you Ma? (I wouldn't say it like that but if I brought it up to her she would say "oh I can do it myself" and do a half ass job and she cant get in the tub.
thanks!
