Should I be Splitting the commission?
Post Body

Iā€™ll make it brief as I only have two hours to decide. We run sales appointment leads generated by the office. Typically once you see a homeowner they are yours unless they didnā€™t like you.

A rep went out in March, pitched of system and they didnā€™t buy ( common) the homeowner must have called back in June maybe thinking she was calling another company as we have a lot of phone numbers and it went to me instead of the office seeing her in the system and sending the original guy back ( happens a lot)

It wasnā€™t easy but it closed, took 2 months my commission on it is about 1700.00 I get half up front and half when itā€™s installs and paid in full. Our quotes were almost identical. It is a per foot price so as long as the measurements are the same it should be pretty close minus a few misc things here and there.

Now itā€™s the end of the pay cycle and Iā€™m wondering if I should split the commission with the first guy. I donā€™t poach his customer it was given to me on my schedule. It was the offices screw up and I didnā€™t find out he went there until I ā€œpushedā€ the sale and seen his name in the system for a past quote.

On one side I feel, no one would do this for me if it was them and why should I take money away from my family. Plus why didnā€™t he keep following up with his customer and close it.

On the other I would be BS if I was in his shoes and it was my customer. More mad at the office for not paying attention. Any insight people?
