I’m a 19 yr old male and when I was freshly 18 the first thing I did was get my license, passed both tests first try and as soon as I was able to I wanted to go car shopping. So when I got paid I saw an ad for a 2015 bmw 228i xdrive. The claimed payments a month were only about 400$ on the ad so I said screw it imma look into it, ofc I loved the car and wanted to do anything to get it, I was also getting a new job starting at 20$ an hour (which I then got let go from) so I knew financially I would be okay. Fast forward a lot, did research on the car and the ONLY issue it had was a big one. Timing chain failure was a known thing among the pre 2016 n20 engines, but other than that they were very reliable. So I said screw it im gonna do it, so I went through the 6 hour process, got the 800$ insurance, and settled on a 5 year payment plan at 543$ a month at 29.9% apr. I knew I was making a mistake but having the luxury/privilege of getting my own car and it had the chance to be a decently fast car which from the looks of it can be reliable as long as I take care of it I committed. Told everyone and my 2 oldest siblings agreed I made a huge mistake. But I had no guidance, I was just a stupid fresh 18 year old with the privilege of having their own money. Now I have no license and I’m about 15,000$ deep in debt at 19. I don’t know what to do with this car as it needs almost 13,000$ in repairs. I’m going to try to sell it but even then I don’t know what I’ll do. Any advice at all would be amazingly helpful. Not scared to be called dumb, I’m aware, and if anyone has questions feel free to dm and I can go more in depth.
