I dropped out of college in March of last year due to having major depressive disorder and anxiety which led me to have suicidal thoughts, skip classes and not study like I should have. I have been home since then and I now want to try going back to college again in spring 2025 but… my family (mostly my mother and grandfather) are iffy about letting me go back because they paid a lot of money for me to go the first time and don’t want me to drop out again and waste their money again.
How can I convince my family that I won’t drop out again and I will do much better mentally and academically?
So far my plan to make sure I do not drop out again is to get a permanent therapist and psychiatrist that can prescribe me my medication that I am on currently. Work hard everyday in my depression workbook that a therapist recommended me. And get tutoring and make study groups with my classmates so I can make sure I pass my classes. Pay for pretty much everything including the plane tickets, gas, supplies, dorm room essentials, etc.
Those are some of the things I am going to tell my family too to convince them to let me go back. But what else could I say?
TL;DR:
Dropped out of college due to mental health issues but now want to go back but family is unsure about letting me go back. How do I convince them?
