So for context I was staying with my grandparents on my mom’s side and at the start of this year I moved out because one of them assaulted me. Cops were called and legal proceedings were initiated. On the court date I decided not to pursue charges but still have a sort of safety order or whatever, basically for a couple years they can’t physically harm me which is fine. Because of all that though I kinda forgot and kinda didn’t have a lot of time to contact the jobs I worked and have them change the address to send the w-2 forms.
Because of that my grandparents got them and now my mom has them, usually because I do ask her to help me with them. Unfortunately we’ve been having more and more arguments recently and now I don’t feel entirely comfortable going over there and having her do the taxes because I know for a fact they’re gonna try to verbally abuse me the entire time, whether she does them or if I try to get them, and I’m afraid they may not let me take the forms if I don’t take the abuse.
The thing is, she always does this. It’s always emotional abuse and her husband, my step-dad, chimes in some with verbal abuse. I’m not gonna stand there and take it anymore though. I did ask r/legaladvice, but all I got was a cold answer and downvotes because, to paraphrase a comment “the IRS doesn’t care if your mom withheld your tax forms” which is true, but legally I never got them yet. I’m just tired and done with her and her bs, and idk what to really do about the tax forms. Like I said I tried to ask r/legaladvice but it feels like all the responses there anymore are just so cold and inhuman.
