I'm writing this the same day my company announced we have to go back to the office 5 days a week. I've been going once a week for 3 years and nobody is happy about this new change. I was also rejected today for a job that I really wanted, so I'm a bit emotional.
The thing is that I really have no motivation to do anything for my career. I live a good life. I have a motorcycle, I'm trying out next month for a national team that might go to the Olympics one day, I have a dog and a fiancee. Overall, my life is good.
But my career is so unmotivating. I work as a sourcer (for those who don't know, sourcers are basically recruiters but we're the annoying people who reach out to you on LinkedIn to get you excited about joining our company) at a tech company and I just can't stand this company anymore. It's gone downhill for the past year. Half of our team left and nobody is happy about the new in office rules.
I'm looking at other jobs online and there's just nothing that's interesting to me. I used to be a car mechanic but my body couldn't take it anymore (I'm a woman and barely weigh 100 pounds and I was working 60 hours a week). I enjoy research and would love to do a PhD related to psychology and AI (which is the job that I was rejected from today). I looked if there were more PhD positions like this but there are none in Amsterdam where I live. I have a master's in social psychology and I feel like I could work as a researcher, data analyst, or maybe even an editor. But when I look at jobs online, I have this immense feeling of dread. Like I don't actually want to work. I don't want to have a career where I work 40 hours a week. The only exciting position I found was the one I was rejected from today. Everything else just feels like it would make me so unhappy. I still apply to jobs related to research or analytics because I'm mostly qualified for them but I keep getting rejected. I've sent so many applications and I've only had 2 interviews.
I don't know what to do.
