Im getting feelings for a situation ship. He may leave in December/January. Should I end it before I get my heartbroken?

I met him in June and I’ve developed feelings for him. I always want to know what he’s doing and to text him constantly. We have fun together. We go shopping, eat out/in, sleepover, walk outdoors, etc. He’s in South Carolina right now with friends and he’s going to India on Friday for 3 weeks. He hasn’t texted me today but I just want him to reach out. I don’t want to reach out because I want to know he’s thinking of me and misses me. But I don’t think I’ll get that text. Should I meet someone else before he comes back?
