We all know that one person who speaks a little bit too much in a conversation. However, this friend will not let me have any input in our conversations. I can barely get in two words every 10 minutes because she won’t stop talking. It’s mostly ranting and whining about her problems, which I don’t mind if she needs someone to listen to, but it goes beyond that. She also speaks to herself. I have tried and tried to just zone out during conversations (I know this is rude, but she’s not going to ask me for any contribution to the conversation so I guess it doesn’t matter?) My best guess is that she does this because she has no other friends besides than me, but she doesn’t try talking to anyone else at school. But she started therapy two months ago and it still hasn’t slowed down.
At the beginning of our friendship, she was more reluctant to speak as much as she does, and as she started trusting me, it just increased up to this point. I don’t know how to gently tell her to slow down, or let me be part of some part of the conversation. I have already made her aware that her speaking habit stresses me out. I really don’t want this friendship to go bad, especially since she has no other person to talk to, but I can’t deal with this anymore.
