I owe money to a friend but my budget is tight
Post Body

Long story short, last year I ended up losing a job with no warning and my roommate very kindly helped me cover rent until I got a new job. I paid what I could at the time. I owed him about $500, but he's decided to charge me a late fee of $200 and now wants $700 by the end of June. Not a huge deal, except I'm also paying off a $400 car repair, $300 break replacement, not to mention all my usual bills and rent. I don't make much and basically live paycheck to paycheck, which is why I hadn't paid him back yet. I just never have extra money. Of course I'm willing to pay him back because he did do me a favor, but I'm not sure how I can pay it by the time he's wanting. I'm hoping if I can pay the original $500 then he'll give me another month or so to pay the rest. Or I'll finally get a new job and not have to struggle so much. Does this late fee and everything seems fair? I thought he was overcharging me but he gave me a print out of everything he paid and that I owed, so...it seems legit.

EDIT: Oh also I forgot that I've already paid for a 4 day summer trip in June and I just paid for a 8 week summer class too.
