I've been asked to be the godfather of my friend's kid. What do I do?

Much like the question says, I've been asked to be a godfather./cue music.
When I go to see them for the ceremony, do I bring gifts for the parents and the kid or just the kid?
Do I have to ask them for a yearly status update on their child's development?
Don't really know what the guidance is on this in 2024/25.
