Several years ago, my former friend filed a restraining order against me. The history of this friend and I is that we met in high school. He had tried to pursue me for four years and gave up when he realized he wouldn't be anything more. He stopped talking to me and blocked me when he had graduated from high school 9 years ago. Over the years, I had tried to contact him. I called him repeatedly hundreds of times from a private number for years and made different accounts on Facebook to contact him. I also made different email accounts and e-mailed him. I tried to get back at him for revenge and pleaded about this story of a female teacher we used to have and how I liked her and not him.
There was a time when I stopped contacting him. All of sudden, 4 years ago, I sent a letter to his house for his mom. I wrote about what he did to me. How he stopped talking to me, called me a b****, and how he told me to kill myself. That's what caused him to file a restraining order. He told the judge his side of the story, but I could tell the judge didn't side with him. There was even a point when he mentioned, "She accused me that I wanted to kill her, but I call it self defense." The judge said, "She accused you of threatening her? But you call it self defense?" He said, "Yes. So I said, "Die please. Kill yourself. I've handled the abuse fine. I just don't want my family involved in this." The judge said, "So you personally don't need a restraining order?"
The judge asked him if we ever had a romantic relationship at some point. He said, "No. I tried to pursue her, but she never said that she wanted anything. So when I got into my first relationship, I stopped talking to her."
Then when it was over the judge explained, "The court does not find sufficient evidence to issue a restraining order . The only thing that has happened in the last 6 months is just a letter and you told me that you blocked her."
The judge left me speechless and didn't make me say a word to plead my case. Did he not want me to waste my breath on this person? Why did he not let me say anything? Why was the restraining order not granted?
"Your honor?"
"I don't need to hear from you. There are no orders on you."
"Can I please say something?"
"No. Is it a question?"
"I just want to say something."
"No. Do you have a question?"
(No response)
"I guess you don't. That concludes that matter."
