This is kind of a follow-up post from “they promoted my jack ass”, I got a lot of excellent advice that really carried me into Monday and Tuesday. It’s going…fine. The core duties are well within my capabilities, it’s just up to me to decide how well. This sub helped me refocus a lot, so thank you. Also, I’m back, because r/jobs scares me.
After two days, I have realized that the daily tasks seem quite bloated with redundant data entry, underutilization of existing tech
For example. I maintain two spreadsheets, half of each contain the same data, and I’m pretty sure my old manager was entering it all manually. Which means now I have to maintain these spreadsheets. I’m not entirely clear on what their purpose is, but I’m pretty sure at least one of them could be eliminated by our existing management software. I am not a tech person, kinda tech-adjacent; however I legitimately love Excel and want to learn more of it. I’d much prefer to spend the time investing in those skills than belaboring my already-angry wrists with mindless data entry.
Now like, this is my job, right? To make the spreadsheet, track the data? Build skills while I do it? It might just feel like it’s taking forever bc I’m catching up on a week of updates, so I can give my observations some time to breathe. But I know I can fix this, so I should, right?
Now my therapist, she says to leave it alone. Just do the spreadsheets for six months, then I can change it. We agreed to disagree. I see why she’s saying it, because I’ve already made waves, and I need to lay low and just do the job. But like…it’s a lot harder to do my job with this much bloat in my schedule.
I need a plan. And a mentor, which many of you suggested and I’m working on. That said, I’m not listening to my established therapist. I will listen to Reddit tho…oh jeez help
