A note on replacing pump parts and a personal update
Post Body

Hello everyone! Been a while since I posted. Miss the community :)

First, I wanted to make note about replacing pump parts regularly. So you got a pump, great! But it’s not a one and done thing. Within a few months or so you’ll notice that the suction is off. Or perhaps it’s not able to get as much milk out as you’re used to. Now what? Well, you have to replace the parts on a regular basis. I am referring to the soft, moving parts like the duckbill or the membrane. I am currently running into this issue myself. I find I have to go higher and higher in suction levels to get the same results… levels that I know would usually cause me a lot of pain.

Like these, depending on which pump you have: https://a.co/d/7QDClom

On a personal note, I am fully 100% recovered from surgery mentally and physically. I have been so lucky with an excellent support network. I am continuing to pump as I always have and am now on the mini, progestin only pill. I can’t seem to get my output to be higher than 8oz. At my peek I was making 13oz but this is when I was pregnant (and didn’t know).

So right now I am strategizing on building up supply. I am going to try fenugreek first. I will up my dom dose to 50mg per day. I also think replacing my pump parts will help.

Just a note on short term pregnancy loss and milk since it’s relevant and there have been posts lately alluding to certain unsavory strategies to induce lactation: NO, I did not see an increase in milk after surgery. In fact, my output went down. There is no shortcut to pumping and consistency. Build healthy habits and keep a positive outlook. This should be GOOD for your body and mind.
