TLDR: Got surprised by milk drops even though I wasn't trying, confused now about which direction to go with Goldfarb-Newman, and progesterone questions.
So I'd started taking some supplements, doing breast massage and minor things, for about six weeks. Then stopped everything for almost 2 months, and then randomly decided to express a breast a few days ago, and I got my first drops!! (Wtf happened?) Needless to say I am very surprised and confused. I had wanted to do the GN protocol and was getting ready to begin, dom on the way and everything. So I'm a little thrown now.
As per GN, as many of you know, the idea is to take time to build breast tissue on progesterone BC first, so that you have the equipment necessary for a greater output in the long run once lactation begins. Shorter time on the progesterone phase would generally mean less long term overall output.
However, I have miscarried twice early on (don't know how that impacts breast tissue), and I was on the progesterone-only IUD for years. Then I was on Yaz, the BC recommended by GN, for a couple of years. Stopped that a couple years ago now.
So, first off, as far as the progesterone, does it have an impact on breast growth regardless? As in, would any breast tissue I may have grown on the progesterone during those times still remain? Or would it be like starting over with breast tissue growth every time you begin progesterone again?
Because I'm worried that I haven't grown enough breast tissue for my longer term supply goals now that I'm suddenly lactating. Can I reverse it and take the progesterone anyway, and still move forward with GN? Or is it sort of pointless now that I'm lactating, and my breast tissue growth is sort of "set in" at this point? Would it make more sense to just go ahead and start working on supply? Will it impact my long term supply at this point, by going ahead and starting pumping?
