TRIGGER WARNING: pregnancy loss
If you see my post history, you’ll see that I recently found out the cause of my irregular periods was not lactation but pregnancy. Long story short, it was ectopic and it ruptured yesterday.
In the ER after they gave me morphine, the doctor came by and I informed them I lactate and need to pump. I said I know it’s unusual but I need to pump before surgery so I don’t get engorged.
They asked me “can i ask why you chose to lactate?” I said point blank (kindly) “because I can”. That’s it, no explanation, nothing creative, just the honest raw answer. Maybe it was the morphine speaking in that moment but this is the only answer Im using from now on. It felt so good to not explain it away. I can… therefore I do. Easy and no mental gymnastics.
FYI: I’m ok! I did lose tube because of the rupture but I was sent home right away and am currently in recovery mode.
Please go to the doctor if you experience wild period symptoms. It can point to something more serious. In my case, I was a ticking time bomb and had no idea. I also want to encourage everyone not to be shy with their doctors about disclosing your lactation status. Don’t let that anxiety delay treatment or deny your doc all the points of information to help you.
Much love!!
