Here’s an update on my induce lactation journey, which I started on August 9th, so it’s been about three months now. In the first month, I began with 2 domperidone pills, 1 lactation supplement, and I pumped and massaged my breasts 2-4 times a day. I couldn’t do it during the day because of work, so it was mostly after hours, around 8 PM to 2 AM. Some days, I’d forget a dose or only pump once, but after a week, I saw my first drop of milk.
Moving into the second month, I increased the dose to 3 domperidone pills, sometimes 1-2 lactation supplements depending on my mood, and pumped/massaged once or twice daily because, honestly, I got lazy (and it’s okay to feel that way sometimes!).
In the third month, I started with 3 domperidone pills and 1-2 lactation supplements, and I switched from using a pump to manual hand expression. At first, it was awkward and my hands and arms got sore, haha. But as I got used to it, I found it more effective. When I used a pump, I’d get only 3-4 drops, even if I pumped for 10 or 30 minutes. But with hand expression, I could get around 7-9 drops per session.
Last week, I upped the dose to 4 domperidone pills and 2 lactation supplements, and there’s been a noticeable increase in milk production. On the first day of the change, I was getting 20-25 drops per session, and today I managed 35 drops (sorry for counting in drops, but I’m too lazy to clean containers, so I just use tissue to collect the milk since I live with family and have to be discreet).
In summary, I’ve tried all sorts of methods. I did a short trial with a TENS unit and felt it was actually more effective than regular breast massage tools. Hand expression has worked well for me since it doesn’t make my nipples sore.
Big thanks to everyone in this group for all the knowledge and support, even when I’ve asked silly questions, haha. I do feel a bit embarrassed when I get told to go read the wiki!
