In my early stages of induction, I posted this on the potential positive effects of gym on lactation:

Now that I am actually producing milk, I thought I would update this with some personal experience. I am happy to report that exercise (in my case weightlifting) has shown to be positive for milk output. For the third time now, a few hours after and the following 24-48 after a strenuous workout, I have had an increase in my milk volume during a pumping session.
Sunday I went to the gym and saw a boost on Monday. I noticed Tuesday/yesterday a bit of a decrease from Monday. Then today (Thursday), I went to the gym again. Before the gym I made about .5oz in my morning session. Then immediately after the gym I made .25oz. Now, about 4 hours after the gym I made a 1oz in a single session. This is unusual for me in an afternoon pump.
So, whatβs the takeaway? Exercise has a well known and study proven association with breastfeeding by increasing prolactin levels in the body. Now I have my own anecdotal proof that it is a boost for me. More milk is definitely a strong incentive for me to work hard at the gym.
Get pumped in the gym <> pump more at home. πͺ
