Nipple/breast discharge clearing out - a sign of what?

Is there something specific behind getting the discharge out of your breast? Before I had a break in december I got out yellowish water with first electric pumping and I just wonder if its some sort of mechanism, like its getting ready to let the milk in or something? Ppl are saying its a good sign but I want to know if there's something more to tell
