So I’m an adoptive dad. During the process of meeting the kids we would do fun activities for a day and then they would return to their foster home. One day, my son had a tear in one of his shoes so I ran by the store. This was a big deal. My son had been in foster care since 2 years old and really never had his own shoes. I splurged but I shouldn’t have.
They immediately took my sons shoes away from him. Shoes are hot commodities in a foster home. The foster parents can give those shoes to the next kid and so on and so on.
So after they officially became my foster kids (required before adoption) I went and bought him the same ones.
That’s what foster care can be. I don’t really blame anyone but damn, a kids shoes.
