Hi! 23f, soon to be birth mom. I am 38 weeks along right now and we have chosen an adoptive family for an open adoption. They are awesome and have expressed interest in me pumping to supply our baby with breast milk. My doula has brought up the fact that I will most likely need to actually breastfeed for at least the first week to get my supply up. I wanted the adoptive parents to be able to take her home from the hospital, I don't have the ability to have her in my care, and me travelling to them daily was an option that was brought up, but with the pandemic, and the fact that I would have to use public transport, that could be dangerous for the baby. So my question is, have any other parents breastfed/pumped for their newborn after they were adopted? And how did you and the adoptive family work it out? (Or if you are the adoptive family, how did it work for you?) Also, would other methods work to get my supply going? Like lactation cookies or mother's milk tea? UPDATE: I gave birth on June 5th ❤💛💚💙💜 she's a beautiful little bean, and we all love her so much! I was able to breastfeed for the first few days, I visited their house during the day, but then there was some nipple confusion so we decided to just let her bottle feed, I am now exclusively pumping and my supply has been pretty good (6-10oz per session) they've been sending lots of photos and I have noticed I produce a bit more when I'm looking at photos of her, which I didn't think would actually work, so thanks for that tip, its been awesome!
