just gained custody of my 17 year old sister who has been educationally neglected

hi so as the title says iām starting a new chapter of my life with my younger sister. i want to enroll her in school, but iām not sure if i should do it right away, or wait until next school year? she will have to be in remedial/ sped classes because she has a very limited education. our mother never sent her to school or homeschooled her. iām not sure exactly if this is the right sub reddit to ask but i figured worth a shot! i would really appreciate any advice :)
