Is this a mismatched bitrate or bad USB connection issue?
Post Body

Hello all, and thanks in advance for anyone's help.

So, a glimpse at my account will tell you that I produce adult audio content, and I love it. I have recorded all of my audio on my desktop PC up until yesterday. I recently got a brand new laptop and I wanted to use it to record my audio going forward.

Microphone is an Elgato Wave:3, and it requires an Elgato download called WaveLink to work. I've used the same mic for all other audio and streaming purposes, and I've never before encountered the errors that brought me here today.

I admit I was too eager to record yesterday, and I should have recorded and played back a test audio before sitting down to do my work. Had I done that, I wouldn't have been absolutely distraught at recording over an hour of work that ended up sounding > > > LIKE THIS. ((It's 8 seconds and totally safe for work!)) There's a second or two of silence at the beginning to show the buzzing/crackling only happens with audio input, so capturing a noise print of the silence won't reduce it.

Here are more specifics about the audio if you still aren't sure what happened:

When I first plugged the mic in and hit record in Audition, I got an error message that said "MME internal device error." Trying to select my mic as the input would cause the connection to not respond. Googled it and honestly chose the first Youtube video I saw (I know, amateur play) and the guy said I could try switching my audio hardware from MME to WASAPI (the only other option displayed in the drop-down menu). So I did.

MME has a latency of 200 and a default sample rate of 48000.

WASAPI (which didn't make the software freeze up when selecting the Wave:3) has a latency of 200 and a default sample rate of 44100.

When I reopen the files I recorded, they open with 48000 as the default.

After some research into the mismatched bitrate between my input (Wave:3) and output (laptop speakers) I see a frequent issue that people run into, however it's more about playback speeds and pitch issues, and that wasn't an issue for me.

Y'all, I am exhausted. Like I said, I've never run into an issue with bitrates or weird buzzy audio before, and I don't know how to google my issue anymore. It could be as simple as a connection issue, I just don't know. I wish there was a way to add some filter to recover my audios, but I've pretty much already buried my hope on that front.

Any and all help would warm my heart.
