Shady Hire
Post Body

I suppose I need some advice moving forward.

I was hired on to teach Speech Communications and since it’s been a mess. I’ll outline the issues than current situation.

I’m an English major who applied to teach English as a part time professor. Instead was offered an online adjunct speech communication course.

Was given one week to prepare a class and make syllabus.

Was told after making the course that additional paperwork was needed for hire and had to go within 24 hours

When I asked about any required texts my assigned mentor who hired me said there were no texts or materials to use nor any suggestions for course structure

Book store messages me after I made the course and asked why I wasn’t using the same book as everyone else

I find out my classes are mostly high schoolers who were given a book by their counselors which I was supposed to use.

OKAY so now currently

When I went to sign paperwork (8/27) I was told by the man who hired me, the Dean, that my first pay day would be (9/15).

Today when I didn’t get paid I email the HR department and am told by them that I won’t be paid until 9/30. When I asked for clarification on my pay(I’ve been given a number before but now I distrust anything from the dean) I did not receive a response. Now I noticed I can’t get into my work email, which to be honest could be because of the college’s poor system but it does make me uneasy.

I really needed my paycheck when I was told I would receive it and I’m honestly sick to my stomach from all this.
