Iāve been riding my BMX bike on these tennis courts on and off for over 3 years and 2-3 times a week over the last year and half and never had a issue. Last November a group of women (all easily 60 yrs old) told me āget off these courts, we are going to use them. You can ride your bike over there!ā And pointed to the skatepark. I ride flatland BMX so I only need a flat surface (hence why I was on the tennis courts) I tried explaining that I donāt ride on the skatepark but they wouldnāt have a bar of it. Since then Iāve had to encounter them 6-7 times (with more when Iāve turned up, seen them already there and I just leave again) every time I try to ride with them there I simply roll past them and ride on the free court next to them and Iām still met with muttered words and abuse. Last time the police were even called after they saw my partner and I walking over and they rushed to keep the gate closed so we couldnāt go in. Claiming āwe pay taxes to use these courtsā implying that I didnāt. Then they called the council and came over and told me āthe council says these courts arenāt for bikes so you have to leaveā my partner came to my defence and they abused her. Now there is a sign up saying no bikes, skateboards etc. Iāve been in contact with the deputy mayor of Gawler who has said the sign only gives people playing tennis/basketball priority. If there is a free court Iām allowed to use it. Iām literally only there for 30 mins to roll around and maybe learn some new tricks and Iām not bothering anybody.
Long story short. Has anyone else been using these courts in the morning during the week and had to also deal with these women?
