Hear me out… They are the most “normal” family to exist because of how connected they are to death and gloom..which is the realest thing in this world. Conventional normalcy isn’t true at all. Conventionally normal families consider things like death a taboo and try to portray a happy, bright family life and shy away from topics that are very much real just because they are too afraid to face it.
This thought struck me as I was reading the Addams family values book where Debbie and Fester are getting married in the family cemetery. We forget our dead relatives but death will come for all of us eventually. It’s so beautiful that the Addams family incorporates their dead family members into their everyday lives as if nothing has changed and the love and bonding remains. This is honestly so very beautiful!
Fester is considered a charming and handsome bachelor. Not because of his outward appearance but what is inside. He is a family man who loves his brother and niece and nephews and would die for them anyday (or kill for them.)
Gomez and Morticia’s love only seems to increase with time and life experiences as it SHOULD. But we “normal” humans live such a miserable life that it’s almost a fantasy in our minds to find that kind of love like Gomez and Morticia.
The Addams family is the only normal family and we “normal” people find them strange because we are the strange ones..running away from death, running away from misery, judging people for their appearances, being shallow and judgmental, mocking couple for being head over heels for each other while secretly being jealous. We are the toxic and strange ones. Not them.
